. In particular, there will be significant difficulties in the regulation of legal responsibilities in case of accident. And it will be necessary a remarkable effort of deepening and creativity also from the ethical-philosophical point of view, in the phase of setting up the algorithms destined to indicate the choices to be made in critical situations (ethics of algorithms).
In evaluating and trying to solve the legal and ethical difficulties mentioned above, it should be considered that the design of algorithms for autonomous systems (such as autonomous cars) is nowadays done in the framework of Machine Learning: in the framework, therefore, of a technology suitable to create autonomous systems able to learn through experience and consequently to take decisions characterized by a large degree of autonomy, and not always predictable.
